Educational Studies Minor

Requirements for Minor in Educational Studies


This interdisciplinary minor focuses on education-related, human service career opportunities (e.g., education policy, environmental education, health and wellness, museum outreach, recreation and athletics, social work, youth development and learning). It also provides relevant professional connections to other departmental programs of study. The minor does not prepare an individual to be eligible for teacher certification. Various graduate programs of study value this education-related preparation. Anyone interested in this program of study is welcome to contact the Education Department.

  • A minimum of five units of course work including one unit in foundations of education (EDUC 195  ), one unit in human development and learning theories (PSYC 251 , PSYC 254   or PSYC 210  ), completion of an internship or practicum (EDUC 196  , EDUC 382  or EDUC 398 ) and a minimum of two or two and one-half units of electives constituting a curricular focus. 
  • Please note: EDUC 195   and EDUC 196   require completion of a clinical field experience in a relevant setting and three backgournd checks: (1) Albion College criminal history check form, (2) Internet Criminal History Access Tool search, and (3) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) disclosure.
  • Written approval by the Education Department chair to the Registrar is required to apply elective courses as the curricular focus for the program of study.
