Requirements for Major in Earth Science


The eight-unit earth science major is intended for the student who begins the major in the second semester of the sophomore year or later or is doing the major in addition to another major.

Eight Units, Including:


Two courses from the following list, at least one of which must be E&E 151 or 153

One Cognate Course, Including:


Experiential Requirements:


● All earth science majors must satisfy a field work requirement equivalent to one-half unit of study. This requirement may be fulfilled by summer research, internship or work experiences, academic year directed studies, completion of E&E 271 or E&E 375, or other suitable field experiences approved by the faculty.

● Departmental Colloquia: All earth science majors are required to attend departmental colloquia regularly. In these, students who completed research projects, service projects, internships or field experiences the previous semester will report on them, and other items of general interest, such as graduate schools and careers, will be discussed.

Notes:


● All courses for themajor must be taken for a numerical grade. Students electing an earth science major are encouraged to complete the cognate unit as early as possible in their Albion career.


● A maximum of one geographic information systems course (E&E 133, E&E 233 or E&E 333) may be counted toward the major.


● This major may not be elected by geology majors, or geology or environmental geology minors.
