Cooperative Education Pathway for Chemistry or Biochemistry Major, B.A.

Requirements for a Cooperative Education Pathway for Chemistry or Biochemistry, B.A.

In order to graduate via the Cooperative Education Pathway, students must take all of the courses to complete either a chemistry or biochemistry major plus:

  • Complete Professionalism and Etiquette Workshop from School of Public Purpose
  • Three-month Chemical Technician Internship
  • Eight-month Thematic Internship in analytical chemistry, synthetic chemistry, or biotechnology/biochemistry
  • Maintain an electronic portfolio to document the student learning outcomes met for any introductory or advanced laboratory that are completed during a first-year research immersion rotation or thematic internship.

It is expected that students will take courses during their eight-month thematic internship to maintain progress toward their degree.  Students will work with a Chemistry or Biochemistry Department adviser to determine what coursework is most appropriate.

Students may substitute up to two first-year research immersion rotations for the appropriate introductory lab: CHEM 152L, CHEM 154L, CHEM 212L.  Students may also earn credit for one appropriate advanced lab, either: CHEM 321, Advanced Synthesis Laboratory; CHEM 323, Advanced Laboratory: Biochemistry; or CHEM 327, Advanced Physical and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory.

Students may take departmental advanced departmental coursework as a synchronous, online course.  They may also enroll in online courses through CIC Online Course Sharing Consortium to earn credits for graduation.
