PLSC 225: Migration and Citizenship (1 Unit) This course provides and overview of immigration policy and immigrant integration in the United States. We will discuss the historical roots of immigration and review the U.S. immigration policy as it changed over the years, primarily focusing on the post-1965 period. In addition to the federal-level policies, we will cover state and local laws, rules, and ordinances that address immigrant flows and immigrants’ daily lives. We will also examine governmental and non-governmental actors shaping immigration policies and public opinion, including anti-immigrant sentiments. Finally, we will conceptualize citizenship and discuss the integration and exclusion of immigrants in the United States. Schnabel
