EDUC 196: Learner-Centered Approaches, Supports and Technologies 1 Unit Prerequisites: EDUC 195 and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Introductory course for students interested in PK-12 education with teacher certification. Emphasizes understanding and application of learner-centered approaches, supports and technologies as well as social-emotional learning. These are essential in understanding and supporting personal and professional growth, as well as in understanding diverse PK-12 learners and the development of the whole child. These will be explored in greater depth in all subsequent education courses. A minimum of twenty hours of clinical experience focuses on development in each of the domains of the Framework for Teaching, the Standards for the Preparation of Teachers PK-12, Early Childhood Quality Standards, the Michigan Core Teaching Practices and special education.
